The Phoenix and San Francisco offices of SmithGroup are designing new senior living communities in Arizona and California for Life Care Services LLC.

The Phoenix office is creating the design of Sagewood Phase II Retirement Community at Tatum and Mayo boulevards in northeast Phoenix. Todd Associates is the architect for the first phase, which currently is under construction.

The $54 million second phase will have 311,000 square feet and 102 units for residents. It will offer independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled care and an auditorium for performances and meetings. The contractor for both phases is The Weitz Co.

SmithGroup’s San Francisco office is designing a new continuing care retirement community near Sacramento for Life Care Services. The first phase of the $98.3 million development in Roseville includes 220 independent and assisted nursing units. The 470,000-square-foot facility will offer a wellness center and a community center.

SmithGroup’s Phoenix and San Francisco offices are pooling their efforts to create the designs for the senior living projects. Life Care Services, based in Des Moines, Iowa, has similar facilities in Peoria and Tempe, throughout California, and in 28 other states. Details are on the company’s Web site,

Long-term care has been one of SmithGroup’s specialities for more than 20 years. Its other design areas include health care, university, workplace and science and technology markets.
