Press Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. – These days, with temperatures in triple digits, it’s hard to think of anything other than how to keep cool, let alone think of doing anything outdoors. But the 2009 Susan G. Komen Phoenix Race for the Cure will be here in just three short months and it’s time to start gearing up for the big day.

The 17th annual event will be Sunday, Oct. 11 in the State Capitol District. Registration is already underway and now is the perfect time to start forming race teams. Nearly half of all race participants belong to a team. In addition to being eligible for awards and convenient team packet pick up, team members also share a sense of camaraderie that makes for an even more memorable race experience.

Team captains, or those thinking of forming a team, are invited to learn more about the event at two presentations this month:

• Wednesday, July 15, 8-9 a.m., Cowden Center, John C. Lincoln North Mountain Hospital, 9202 N. 2nd St., Phoenix.

• Thursday, July 23, 8:30–9:30 a.m., Palo Verde Conference Room, Abrazo Health Care, 8620 N. 22nd Ave., Phoenix.

A webinar will be available to download at www.komenphoenix.org for those who are unable to attend one of the kick-off events. For more information or to RSVP, email teams@komenphoenix.org or call 602-346-CURE (2873).

The Phoenix race is the largest 5K event in Arizona and also features a one-mile family fun run and walk. Last year, more than 31,500 participants helped raise a record $2 million towards education, screening and treatment for the medically underserved throughout central and northern Arizona and national research efforts.
