TEMPE, Ariz. – If you appreciate redeveloped residential properties and restored American classic cars, check out what’s happening in downtown Tempe this month.

The new condos are the Regency Condominiums, a renovation of a mid-20th Century apartment complex designed to meet the need of today’s students. The work by Miravista Holdings includes built-in furniture, Italian cabinets, stone countertops and a designer pool.

The new condo project is on the new light rail line, adjacent to Arizona State University and within walking distance of several trade schools and colleges. The prices start at $179,000. A video of the condos is available at http://video.aol.com/video-detail/regency-condominiums/1910293088.

The grand opening will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Regency Condominiums, 1100 E. Lemon , in Tempe.

Honkin’ cool cars

Now if you’re into classic cars, when the powerful design of American muscle cars matched the horsepower under the hood, the city of Tempe is hosting a free classic car show to promote the city’s new five-story parking garage. The March 14 car show will be on the roof of the new structure, with 400 parking spaces, at Fifth Street and Forest Avenue. Parking for the show will be free on the lower levels.

The daylong car show includes songs by Come Back Buddy, a Buddy Holly tribute band singing favorites by one of rock ‘n’ roll’s earliest singers. The March 14 car show is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the band performing from noon to 3 p.m. City officials will formally dedicate the garage on March 13 at 4 p.m.

Clubs set to show their cars include the Tempe Nuevo Club and the Shriners. Individual enthusiasts also will display their classic cars.

The city’s new parking garage and a forthcoming US Airways garage at Third Street and Mill Avenue will add another 1,700 parking spaces to the city’s parking inventory. The two new garages boost to nearly 12,000 the number of parking spaces in downtown Tempe.

The parking garage, built by McCarthy Construction, includes 12,000 square feet for retail and office space.
